2026/27 harvest changes

South Australia and western Victoria

Read about key changes for the 2026/27 harvest.

More storage, exporters and demand for your grain this harvest

54 sites with 10+ million tonnes of storage plus additional storage capacity for this season.

Significant strategic investments in bunkers, drive over hopper stackers, classification offices and weighbridges.

Site operations based on local feedback and delivery needs.

35+ buyers ready to purchase your grain, including 12 exporters.

7+ million tonnes of shipping booked, including 1.7+ million tonnes during harvest.

Reduced sample size for barley receivals with high foreign grain

To reduce classification time for barley loads with high foreign grain (FG) contamination, we will run the test on a 10% test weight sample size.

Classifiers will count the FG in the 10% sample and calculate the number as a half litre sample. The classifier will be required to check the full half litre sample if the 10% results are close to FG limits.

Poor colour kernel testing removed for lentils

To simplify the lentil classification process, we will not classify poor colour kernel (PCK) on individual farmer loads.

We will continue to monitor the overall quality in storage and may introduce PCK testing on loads if required to ensure quality is maintained for the end user.

Tonnage deductions removed for B grade lentils

B grade lentil deliveries no longer have tonnage deductions applied based on foreign seed and other contaminants.

Continued increased lentil production across the state and bulk exports from our network have allowed us to make this change to benefit farmers, while ensuring we can continue to meet buyers’ quality requirements and maintain market access for South Australian lentils.

Increased total defective grain tolerance for A grade lentils continues

Last season, we increased the A grade lentil tolerance so deliveries with 4.5% to 5% total defective grain can achieve A grade, provided all other receival standards are met.

This change continues to support farmers to achieve higher value for eligible lentil deliveries while maintaining quality requirements for buyers and end use customers.

Updated segregation plans based on farmer feedback

We have updated our 2026/27 segregation plans based on farmer feedback, paddock information submitted through the Bunge app and expected production across our network.

Check the wheat variety list before delivery

Before delivering, please check that your wheat variety appears on Grains Australia’s current wheat variety list.

Varieties not listed can only achieve SFW1 feed grade.

Review the NHVR changes

The Heavy Vehicle National Law has changed this year, including updates to:

  • Accreditation, with the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme moving to the Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme.
  • Mass limits, with general mass limits increasing to align with former concessional mass limits, removing the need for specific mass accreditation to access concessional mass limits.
  • Dimension limits, with general vehicle length limits increasing from 19 metres to 20 metres.
  • Fatigue and fitness requirements, including clearer rules about driving while unfit to drive.

We will have updated truck books available at site that reflect the change to the general mass limits.

Extended opening hours in January

To support the larger harvest and farmers with tonnes remaining on farm into the new year, we will provide extended opening hours throughout January at key strategic sites.

We will work with farmers to understand delivery requirements following the peak harvest period and continue to update our website and the Bunge app throughout harvest with the latest site and delivery information.

Farmers can contact their local Grower Relationship Manager to discuss January delivery windows.

Storage and handling fees

Storage and handling service fees are paid by our buyer customers and reflected through cost-based charging structures in their pricing.

This year we have simplified the pricing schedule by combining all cereals into one fee and combining canola into one fee.
